This is an update of an existing post from 2011.
A few years ago, you may have seen "Managed Hosting and Support by Pleth" at the bottom of some of the websites that we developed. This small line of text let people know who we are and what we've done — a bit of attribution and recognition of our work. We've since moved on to using a hashtag, #plethpowered, but we want to take a minute to explain what that line means, exactly.
Managed Hosting and Support: #plethpowered
"Managed hosting" is one of the many website-related services we offer. It's also a term that isn't used often in everyday conversation. Let us break down what this service means for your business and your website.
First, "hosting". Hosting means managing the server space your site occupies, and ensuring your site remains live on the Internet as close to 100% of the time as possible.
We prefer to host your website, as opposed to working with another hosting company, because this allows us to understand exactly what technologies that the website's servers use, which, in turn, allows us to be better able to support you in the rare instance that something does go wrong.
We won't have to worry about account permissions or the varying levels of access we may or may not have to third party account; we understand it, inside and out, and we can manipulate it however we need to maintain near-perfect uptimes.
Other hosting companies can do some of these things too, but what sets our services apart is the "managed" portion of this equation.
Your Website, Managed
When we say "managed", we mean a lot of things, from development to deployment.
From the moment you accept our proposal for your new website, your project is being managed by a project manager, who will keep you up to speed as we design and develop your website.
As the website moves from development to deployment, there are a lot of small things that need to happen to ensure that the website works as intended: domain registrations, DNS changes, software updates, CMS installation (and their own updates). We control all of these things and have over a decade of experience in keeping these up to date and working.
Consultation and Support
Support is also a large part of hosting and maintaining a website. There are often questions that come up when an update is pending or when, for example, a new hire needs to make changes to the website. We're always available for website support and technical consultations.
We encourage our clients to ask questions and participate in the development of their websites. The more we know you and your business, the better we can serve you.
If you're interested in expanding your website — by adding more content or new features — we are always a phone call away to give you information, from cost to time estimates.
Peace of Mind
All of the services we offer boil down to peace of mind. You don't have to worry about your website doing down, or your domain name expiring (and being bought by someone else from under you), or website updates, or off-site backups. We do all of that for you.
If you're interested in any of our other services, shoot us an email!
