Interesting post about Google+ today–Mashable.com interviews Chris Brogan, author of Google+ for Business: How Google’s Social Network Changes Everything, and addresses some of the big questions on how the social network fits into the social media marketing landscape.
Brogan argues the big strength of using Google+ as a marketing tool is its intimate relationship with Google search results. "Google+ posts sent to 'public' rank fairly well in Google search results," he said. "You can’t get that with Facebook or Twitter these days." The ability for users to find you in the results of the country's biggest search engine obviously means a lot for exposure, and Google+ is hoping to add to this effect with its Direct Connect feature that takes users right to your Google+ page simply by adding a plus sign to their search query.
But with a fraction of the users Facebook and Twitter have, companies might not be feeling so compelled to add yet another social network to their existent social media marketing presence. Brogan says the numbers don't matter.
"Don’t worry about counting users," he said. "Google has far deeper pockets than Facebook and several dozen applications that are all useful to business."
While some brands might be waiting for the search giant's social network to hit critical mass before they hop aboard, plenty of high-profile ones have already created pages and attracted some loyal followers, including Intel, Dell and Starbucks.
